An initiative for Plastic Free Campus.

The International Plastic Bag Free Day is celebrated every year on 3 July, with an aim to raise awareness about the issues of plastic pollution and its harmful impact on the natural environment. International Plastic Free day was created as a worldwide initiative for the purpose of getting rid of the single-use of plastic bags around the world. The day aims to draw attention towards such harmful effects, as it takes around 100-500 years for a plastic bag to decompose.

It is all about promoting environmental conservation by encouraging all to stay away from the use of plastic bags and instead look for more eco-friendly alternatives. The day is also important in terms of increasing awareness of the dangers and the harm that is associated with plastic bags looking at the bad impact they have on marine life, animal life, and nature. So, it is good to share awareness and use your voice on this Day.

We realized that the reason most people prefer plastic bags is for its convenience and cheap cost, but their convenience is proving detrimental to our eco system. Hence, Gajera International School, Katargam celebrated Plastic Bag Free day by demonstrating how favourable it is to use bags made of environment friendly materials such as cloth, jute and paper. The students from Grades I- VIII participated with full zeal and enthusiasm. The little ones made newspaper bags in different designs with biodegradable materials.

The slogan of ‘Say No to plastic bags’ was encouraged as a message on these bags. Apart from this, different creative slogans were given to promote for less use of plastic.
