World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought
The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification. The day is a unique moment to remind everyone that land degradation neutrally is achievable through problem-solving, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels. The history behind this day began in December 1994 at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to combat desertification and drought.

Every year the day is observed on June 17th to let people know that desertification and drought can be effectively tackled and solutions are possible.
