World Ocean Day Celebration by learners of Gajera International School Katargam through Beach Cleanu

Every year, on the 8th of June, the world comes together to celebrate World Ocean Day, a global initiative that aims to raise awareness and promote the protection of our beautiful oceans.

This year, the learners of Gajera International School Katargam took part in an inspiring Nation wide Ocean Day Celebration by participating in Dumas beach cleanup event organized by Gujarat State Co-ordinator of Beach Development Project Dr. Darshan Marjadi. With enthusiasm and determination, the learners embarked on a mission to separate plastic, metal, and paper waste, making a significant contribution to the preservation of our oceans.

The sun was shining brightly as the learners gathered at a nearby beach early in the morning. Armed with cap , mask , gloves, trash bags, and contagious energy, they were ready to take on the challenge of cleaning up the beach and protecting marine life from the dangers of pollution. The beach cleanup was not only an opportunity to celebrate Ocean Day but also a chance for the learners to put their environmental knowledge into action.

As the learners explored the beach, they were astonished to see the amount of litter that had accumulated. Plastic bottles, metal cans, and paper scraps were scattered across the sand, posing a threat to the delicate ecosystems of the ocean.

All the learners were briefed by Dr. Darshan Marjadi for the tasks to be performed , an activity map was prepared and shared with them , learners were divided into teams equally . Undeterred by the daunting task ahead, the learners began the process of separating the waste.

Working in harmony, the learners meticulously segregated the plastic, metal, and paper waste into different bags provided, which were then weighed and analyzed later . They understood the importance of recycling and how this simple act could make a significant difference in reducing pollution and preserving our oceans. Their dedication and teamwork were truly commendable.

While the learners were working tirelessly to clean up the beach, their efforts did not go unnoticed. The local citizens were impressed by the determination and commitment displayed by the young learners. They appreciated the initiative taken by Gajera International School Katargam and decided to lend their support. Additional resources were also provided to collect and dispose off the segregated waste properly. They acknowledged the significance of the learners' contribution and applauded their efforts in creating a cleaner and healthier environment.

The event concluded with a celebration where the learners shared their experiences and the lessons they learned throughout the day. Vice Principal Ankit Modi and Educators expressed their gratitude towards the officials who had supported their cause. It was a day filled with joy, pride, and a renewed commitment to continue working towards a sustainable future and achieve UN SDG 3 , 13 , 14 and 15.

The whole activity was monitored by NCCR - National Centre for Coastal Research and Gujarat State Coordinator through OSI - Ocean Society of India. Learners extended their gratitude to Principal Mrs. Sonia Budhiraja for giving them this opportunity to experience and learn something new.

The Ocean Day Celebration celebrated by the learners of Gajera International School Katargam served as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving our oceans. Through their beach cleanup initiative, the learners showcased their dedication, passion, and responsibility towards the environment. Their actions inspired others to join the movement and take part in protecting our oceans.
